What is Estate Planning?

Estate planning is the active and ongoing process of managing your affairs during life and providing for the distribution of your wealth at the time of death. At a minimum, every individual should have a current will, powers of attorney for financial and health matters, a living will, and in some instances a revocable living trust. Of course, many estates require additional planning which may include the use of complex trusts, limited partnerships or other business entities, as well as a myriad of other planning techniques.

Estate planning is not just for the wealthy! Even for those with limited means, a simple estate plan is essential. There are many reasons for developing a personal estate plan, including, but not limited to: naming a guardian for minor children; ensuring appropriate provision for a surviving spouse; planning for disability and incapacity; eliminating unnecessary taxation; and reducing legal and administrative costs.

Our practice is devoted almost exclusively to the areas of estate and charitable planning, probate, trust and estate administration, elder law, and related disputes.

We would welcome the opportunity to assist you with your legal needs.
